AI Block Builder
Describe the component you need and the AI builds it as a custom block, connected to your Jestor tables and ready to place on any app page.
In short
- What it is: The AI Block Builder lets you create your own app blocks with AI.
- What you can do: show records from your Jestor tables, with filters, sorting and totals; create, update and delete records; read the fields of a table and the users of your workspace.
- How to start: Open the app page where you want the block.
- Keep in mind: The AI Block Builder is available on Pro, Scale and Expert plans.
What is it
The AI Block Builder lets you create your own app blocks with AI. Instead of being limited to the native blocks, you describe the interface you want in a chat, and the AI builds it inside a block on your app page.
The result is a custom interface connected to your tables. It can show your records the way you imagined, let users create and update data, and open records or other apps in Jestor, all from a single block. If you can describe it, you can turn it into a block: a visual board, a custom form, a calculator, a progress tracker, a timeline or anything else your process needs.
Capabilities
A block created with the AI Block Builder can:
- Show records from your Jestor tables, with filters, sorting and totals
- Create, update and delete records
- Read the fields of a table and the users of your workspace
- Update automatically when the data in the table changes
- Open a record, open the form to create a new record, or take users to another app, table or link
- Show success, error or information messages to the user
- Use the colors, background and font of your workspace and app page, so it looks like part of your system
- Keep saved code versions, so you can choose which version the block uses
When to use
Use the AI Block Builder when you want to:
- Create a component that the native blocks don't offer
- Show data in a specific visual way (for example, a seat map, a production board or a custom timeline)
- Give users a simpler screen to do one task fast (for example, a check-in screen or a quick order form)
- Combine information from different tables in one interface
- Add a custom piece to an app created by the AI App Builder
How to create a custom block
- Open the app page where you want the block.
- Enter Build mode: press B or click Build in the top bar.
- Click Block in the toolbar, or press F.
- Choose AI Block Builder (the icon of a block with a cursor).
- The block is added to the page and the AI Block Builder chat opens, already connected to this block.
- Describe the interface you want: what it should show, which table it uses, what users can do in it and how it should look.
- Send the message and wait while the AI builds the interface inside the block.
- Resize and position the block on the page like any other block.
How to edit a custom block
To change a block, keep talking to the AI:
- In Build mode, open the block settings.
- Click Talk to the AI to open the AI Block Builder chat for that block.
- Describe what you want to change. For example: "Add a filter by owner" or "Show the total value at the top".
In the block settings you can also:
- Name the block
- In Version and data, select the code version the block uses
- In Style, turn Round corners on or off
How it works with native blocks and the AI App Builder
The AI Block Builder doesn't replace your other blocks. It adds to them.
- Next to native blocks. A custom block lives on the same app page as Smart Kanban, Charts, Table, Search Filter and the other native blocks. Because they all use the same tables, a record created or changed in your custom block shows up in the other blocks, and the custom block updates when records change.
- With apps created by the AI App Builder. The AI App Builder creates tables in a folder named AI - <app name>. A custom block can use those same tables. For example, after the AI App Builder creates a Sales CRM, you can build a block that shows a ranking of sellers using the Deals table, or a quick form that creates activities for a deal.
- With your navigation. A custom block can open records and take users to other apps and tables, so it can work as a shortcut panel between parts of your system.
Examples
- Sales ranking: "Create a block that shows a ranking of sellers by won deals this month, using the Deals table, with a photo and the total value of each seller."
- Quick check-in: "Create a check-in screen where the user searches a guest by name and clicks a button to change the status to Checked in."
- Production board: "Show the orders from the Orders table as cards grouped by machine, with a color for each priority, and open the record when I click a card."
- Goal tracker: "Show a progress bar for each team using the Monthly Goals table, comparing the goal with the sum of won deals."
- Custom form: "Create a simple form to register a visit, with client, date and notes, that creates a record in the Visits table and shows a success message."
Tips for good prompts
- Name the tables and fields. Say which table the block should use and which fields matter.
- Describe what the user does. Explain the actions: search, click, create, update, open a record.
- Describe the look. Mention layout, colors, cards, lists or charts.
- Make one change at a time. Smaller requests are easier to review.
Keep in Mind
- Available on Pro plans and above. The AI Block Builder is available on Pro, Scale and Expert plans. See Plans.
- Not shown on public links. Custom blocks are not available on public links of apps.
- Review before using in production. Test the block with real records, especially if it creates, updates or deletes data.
- Reload if asked. If a block shows a message saying it was built for a newer version of Jestor, reload the page.
- Each message consumes AI credits. Follow your consumption in Settings → Usage. See Usage.
FAQ
1. What is the difference between the AI Block Builder and the AI App Builder?
The AI App Builder creates a complete system from a description, with tables, pages, rules and sample data. The AI Block Builder creates one custom block, placed on an app page and connected to your tables. You can use both together.
2. Can a custom block change my data?
Yes. A custom block can create, update and delete records in your tables, depending on what you ask the AI to build.
3. Can I use a custom block with the tables created by the AI App Builder?
Yes. The tables created by the AI App Builder are regular Jestor tables, so a custom block can read and update them.
4. Does the block update when the data changes?
Yes. A custom block can follow the records it shows and update when they change.
5. Will the block match the look of my app?
Yes. The block receives the colors, background and font of your workspace and app page, and you can describe any style you want in the chat.
6. Can I go back to an earlier version of the block?
Yes. In the block settings, under Version and data, select the code version you want the block to use.
7. Does it use my AI credits?
Yes. Building and editing blocks with the AI consumes AI credits from your plan. See Usage.
