Mentions and Mark as Read
Two features in the chat to help you manage high message volumes: a dedicated Mentions category that shows when you were tagged, and a Mark as Read button to quickly clear unread messages.
Mentions
A new Mentions category now appears automatically in the chat sidebar. It groups all messages where someone tagged you, organized by channel, so you can see at a glance where and how many times you were mentioned.
In every channel where you were tagged, an orange @ badge will appear showing the number of times you were mentioned in that channel. To check your mentions, click the channel name inside the Mentions section. The conversation will open with the relevant messages highlighted. If you only care about direct mentions, you can collapse all other sections and keep only Mentions visible — so it stays out of the way until you need it.
Mark as Read
If you have a large number of unread messages and want to clear them all at once, you can now mark everything as read in a single click. Open the conversation and click Mark as read. All unread indicators for that conversation are cleared immediately.
Keep in mind
- The Mentions section only shows messages where you were explicitly tagged with @yourusername. General unread messages are not included.
- Marking a conversation as read does not delete or archive the messages — it only removes the unread indicator.
- The Mentions count per channel reflects how many times you were tagged, not the number of conversations.
FAQ
1- Where do I find the Mentions section?
It appears automatically in the chat sidebar for all users. If you don't see it, make sure you are on the latest version of Jestor.
2- Can I mark a single message as read instead of the whole conversation?
The Mark as Read button clears all unread messages in the conversation at once. Marking individual messages is not currently supported.
3- If someone mentions me and I miss it, will it still appear in the Mentions section?
Yes. The mention stays listed until you open the conversation, so you won't lose track of it.
4- Does collapsing other chat sections affect my notifications?
No. Collapsing sections only changes what is visible in the sidebar — it does not mute or disable notifications for those channels.
